Amalaki

OTHER NAMES
Indian Gooseberry, Amla, (Emblica officinalis)

WHAT IT IS
The amalaki is the fruit of Emblica officinalis, a deciduous plant native to the Indian subcontinent. For centuries, it has been used for an impressive list of things from medicine, culinary, hair, skin to religious ceremony.

WHY WE LOVE IT
Amalaki is one of the most widely used herbs in Ayurvedic medicine. It naturally contains loads of hair and skin friendly treats like tannins, vitamin C, minerals and organic acids. These molecules work together to volumize and strengthen hair fibers and ward off premature grays. amalaki is also purported to enhance curls and its astringent properties add shine to hair. Overall amalaki is regarded as an important hair herb for maintaining healthy lustrous hair. In skin care, amalaki is a great source of vitamin C. Vitamin C promotes collagen formation, reduces sun damage, and strengthens the skin’s barrier response.
